Dietary Risk Factors for the Development of Inflammatory Polyarthritis
This nested case-control study was conducted within a prospective population-based study of cancer incidence (European Prospective Investigation of Cancer in Norfolk [EPIC-Norfolk]). EPIC-Norfolk recruited 25,630 subjects ages 45-75 years between 1993 and 1997. Dietary intake was assessed at baseline using a 7-day food diary, and the information was analyzed using dietary analysis software.

Dietary Fat and Fatty Acids and Risk of Colorectal Cancer in Women
The authors examined the association of intakes of different types of fat and fatty acids with risk of colorectal cancer using data from the Women's Health Study, a randomized trial of low-dose aspirin and vitamin E carried out among 39,876 healthy US women aged greater than or equal to 45 years. Among the 37,547 women eligible for the present study, 202 developed colorectal cancer during an average follow-up period of 8.7 years (1993-2003).

A Prospective Cohort Study of Nut Consumption and the Risk of Gallstone Disease in Men
Gallstone disease is a major source of morbidity in Western countries. Nuts are rich in several compounds that may be protective against gallstones. The objective of the study was to examine the relation between nut consumption and gallstone disease in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. The consumption of nuts was assessed starting in 1986 as part of a 131-item semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire.

Changes in Whole-Grain, Bran, and Cereal Fiber Consumption in Relation to 8-y Weight Gain Among Men
Epidemiologic studies that directly examine changes in whole-grain consumption in relation to weight gain are sparse, and characterization of this association has been obscured by methodologic inconsistencies in the assessment of whole grains. We aimed to ascertain the associations between changes in new quantitative estimates of whole-grain intake and 8-y weight gain among US men.
