The Australasian Nutrition Advisory Council is an independent panel of nutrition and health experts dedicated to improving the nutritional well-being of the Australasian community. The primary focus is on evaluating the value of plant foods, drawing upon contemporary science and knowledge from around the globe. The panel is convened by the Sanitarium Health Food Company.
Operating in concert with existing organisations, ANAC aims
to raise public and professional awareness of key nutrition
and health issues. Its role in relation to the Sanitarium
Health Food Company is advisory.
The highest ethical standards will guide its communications both internally and externally as it strives to achieve a meaningful improvement in the nutritional health and knowledge of the Australasian community.

Activities
Publications
The ANAC group has produced a publication "Food for Cancer
Prevention" which was based on the 1997 World Cancer Research
Fund (WCRF) and American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR)
report on "Food, Nutrition and the Prevention of Cancer: a
Global Perspective" and the dietary recommendations arising
from that report. The WCRF recommendations were based on a
three-year review of approximately 4,000 scientific studies
on diet and cancer. The ANAC group has comprehensively reviewed
the 14 recommendations made by the WCRF in their original
report and has adapted them where necessary to consider the
public health environment in Australia and New Zealand.
